inside

he smelt like summer rain
cool heavy drenching rain
when black pavement shimmered with heat
thunder rumbled electricity crackled
white light blinds
foreshadowing of pain that may not fall
	Inside
eyes destroy resistance to affection
unbound my winged heart
freed it from this deathhouse
lead me through with a kind whisper
a decade, an instant pass as one
how long will cherub's smile endure?
	Inside
sun sparkling golden on her tiny head
She could not know then of years to come
but her kitty was missing
some twenty years in the future
She would think of the boy
who brought it to her
as she fingered the gray,
once white, acrylic fur
rubbed the bit of dried glue that
once held on a pink nose
stitches in place of the red tongue
all only a memory now
even the green eyes were scratched
bits of foam peeking out the sides
it was love, those things didn't matter
